Paying homage to the vast watershed and glacial origins of the now-called Columbia River. Known as “Nch’i-Wana” to the Sahaptin people who inhabited the Mid-Columbia banks, as “hayásh-tsəqʷ (iyagaytɬ imaɬ)” [both translating to ‘Great Water’] to the Chinook people, and by many other names to many other indigenous groups who lived on and with this river, and whose descendants still do.
