Back from Baghlan. In anticipation of coming posts that will be longer and actually talk about what I did, let me just say for now that:
1. I never thought one of the best hot showers I would have in my life would be in Afghanistan.
2. If you are not religious, a good way to cure that is to suffer from diarrhea all week long and then have a very long drive ahead of you with the potential to get stuck [and you will] and a driver who does not stop for bathroom breaks. You will find yourself praying hard very quickly, to any and all gods that will listen. Luckily for me, my desperate pleas for divine intervention were heard.
3. I’m probably going to have an astronomically high phone bill this month, but it was worth it for the brief reprieves from feeling like I was isolated somewhere in Middle Earth with no guaranteed way back.

My best hot shower was in Guatemala!! I can totally relate to the diarrhea on my trip around the world. Boy, did I develop really strong anus muscles and determination.
